Description

Identifake, an interactive exhibit that will enable youth to recognize and counter misinformation and disinformation is poised to empower Malaysians. In partnership with Arus Academy, Biji-Biji Initiative, the Fourth, and Malaysia Information Literacy Education (MILE), U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur will open Identifake at the American Youth Corner of Kuala Lumpur.  Identifake has travelled to Kedah, Kelantan and will continue it's journey in Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, and Sarawak. At American Corners in each city, audiences will learn to spot fake information and hoaxes and learn best fact-checking practices to promote information literacy.

Through a series of engaging workshops and innovative activities on fact-checking, investigative and mobile journalism, and impactful storytelling, experienced journalists and subject-matter experts will empower participants by making them more critical consumers of content online. The exhibit will also feature special workshops for students ages 13-25, educating them on spotting and debunking viral misinformation and sharing media literacy tips. Identifake will culminate with a competition supported by the Ministry of Education, where participants ages 13-25 will create their own videos to combat disinformation. Winners will get their winning videos promoted on YouTube in addition to getting other prizes.

Identifake is expected to benefit 1,500 students from various cities nationwide between October 2023 and February 2024. Check out these dates for Identifake near you:
