Description

Love to write? Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, join us at Weekly Writes! Hosted by #MYWriters Penang, the weekly write-ins at LUMA are when writers gather in one place to write. Feel free to drop in at any time during our opening hours from 2.30pm - 10.30pm (dinner break: approx 6.30-7.30pm). You can work on anything you like--our regulars work on a multitude of forms, including flash fiction, short stories, poetry, novels, and blog posts, across all genres. You do not need to come for the full 8-hour session, but can come for 1 to 2 hour slots, depending on your own availability. Often, having other writers hard at work nearby is great motivation for writing. If you get stuck, feel free to discuss the finer points of your plot with whoever else is procrastinating -- just try not to disturb those who are already in the zone! If you're looking for feedback on your work, we hold monthly Critique Session every last Monday of the month from 8.00pm onwards in person and on Discord. Email your piece (no more than 5,000 words) to nutmag.zine@gmail.com the week before.

How to prepare

LUMA is located at 37 Jalan Kampung Jawa Lama, behind Hin Bus Depot. Roadside parking is available. We meet upstairs where the aircon is, so be prepared to remove your shoes. If you are coming through from Hin Bus Depot, give us a ping at 0124307353 so that we can open the door for you! Otherwise, just shout/ring the xylophone when you're at our front door. Bring along your writing materials, whether it's pen and paper or your laptop. Wifi is available if you write on the cloud. While you do not need to come for the full eight hours, you are encouraged to allocate at least one to two hours to give yourself sufficient time to write something.
