About the Experience

Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
Up To 21 Learners
Language: English

Description

Come try printmaking in a way that's easy to start, low-waste, and in a funky pixel / dot matrix style!

Before digital printing was invented, prints of text or images were created by first adding a mirrored version of the content to a block, adding ink, then pressing or stamping it onto paper or textiles. In this session, you will learn a bit about the arts of block printing and letterpress, create your own designs out of Lego, then print them using a variety of inks and paints.

Note: This is more of an art jam / collective experimenting session than a workshop. I myself am new to Lego prints, and will be learning together with you!!! However, I do know a little bit about the general techniques of printmaking and will be sharing my insights in that regard.

Inspired by #legoletterpress videos on instagram by creators such as @provisionalpress

Instructions

How to prepare

Paper and fabric patches will be provided but you are also free to bring in other things you might want to print on such as tote bags or t-shirts (I suggest not to bring anything too fancy IN CASE the prints don't turn out as perfect as you want them to be) Half of the session will be dedicated for you to come up with ideas and then build it with Lego. A few images / references will be provided for your inspiration or for you to recreate yourself (some will be sent to you via email a few days before the workshop so you can get those creative juices flowing...). However, if you would like to plan ahead you are free to search for inspiration or even start drafting a design beforehand! We will be using 32x32 dot baseplates that measure around 25cm x 25cm. As a reference, search up images of "1 bit pixel art" and also #legoletterpress on instagram and tiktok. If you would like any other clarifications on the design possibilities ahead of time, just drop a message here or on Instagram to @vaguelydaydreams
