About Us

Sustainability,Creativity

Management and Ecology of Malaysian Elephants (MEME) is a research collaboration between the University of Nottingham Malaysia and the Department of Wildlife and National Parks of Peninsular Malaysia (PERHILITAN) established since 2012. MEME’s aim is to use science to develop an evidence-based approach towards protection and conservation of Asian elephants in Peninsular Malaysia. We work with traditional and non-traditional stakeholders to promote human-elephant coexistence, enhance safety for people in shared landscapes, manage conflict, and carry out scientific research that supports conservation action on the ground. MEME is involved with the IUCN Species Survival Commission's Asian Elephant Specialist Group (AsESG) and Human-Wildlife Conflict and Coexistence Specialist Group (HWCCSG). We are a member of the IUCN Protected Areas and Conservation Connectivity's Asian Elephant Transport Working Group (AsETWG).
